Is it possible to perform projection mapping when during the day when the sun is out?
What about during sunset or sunrise?
This is a question we are asked often and the answer is: yes, and it depends!
The Sun:
The sun is extremely bright and boasts over 10,000 lumens per sq/ft!
Even the most intense and bright projectors or LED walls will not be able to compete if the sun is shining directly on the surface.
However, if the surface is inside of a lobby, or in the shade of a structure the answer is a resounding yes!
By understanding the size of the surface and the ambient light levels our team can help guide you on the correct projector count and brightness to ensure the lobby or entryway projections are super crisp even during daylight hours.
Sunrise & Sunset:
We can absolutely deliver the magic of projection mapping during the sunset and sunrise hours!
To ensure the optimal light levels are reached we will compute the surface area, gain of the surface, and the expected light levels so that come showtime the projections are vibrant with a beautiful contrast against the colored sky.
Luckily, as compared to the brightness of the sun during high noon, the intensity of the sunset is not as bright and modern laser projectors are easily able to overcome the light.
