THE ARGYROS
Ketchum, ID is a beautiful and lively mountain town with a performing arts center perfect for a creative projection mapping experience.
Over Memorial Day Weekend of 2021 the team at The Argyros sought to spark a unique show that illuminated downtown to the elation of locals and visitors alike.
THE EXPERIENCE
Starting just before sunset the show was visible from the main avenue as well as a nearby parking lot where many gathered to watch.
The response was incredible as many ventured to see the sights at night bringing chairs, snacks, and great vibes for all to enjoy.
Although turning out for community events is standard fare the effect of a 3D projection mapping show was brand new and was very well received.
THE SYSTEM
The architecture was a textbook opportunity for 3D projection mapping.
A clear line of sight was achieved by setting up on the roof adjacent to The Argyros. On site electric and a massive lift made the setup go smooth.
From this clear vantage point 5 laser projectors were perfectly aligned over the night before the show to attain pixel perfect alignment.
Driving the entire operation was a rugged and outdoor ready flight case with integrated computer. Rain or shine the show was ready!
THE CONTENT
Sun Valley small town arts met with massive creativity when it came to the visual content.
The team at The Argyros was open to collaboration from the start which was an excellent occasion to extend some of our favorite content creation workflows.
In this case it seemed like a perfect opportunity to bring out the “scale model” approach. As shown below a laser cut scale model of The Argyros was made. A camera positioned above captured the art about to be created below.
This package was shipped out in advance and their in-house art team spent a few evenings pressing record and trying their luck at painting, stop motion, and fluid experiments on the model. The result was an absolute hit and meshed perfectly with the architecture of the building and the town’s playfulness.
