ILLUMIBRATE AT JUMP
A perfect match of projection mapping and wavy content created a splash for the entrance to JUMP’s 5th Annual “Illumibrate” in downtown Boise, ID.
The festival of all things color and light spanned 5 stories and over a city block with a well curated mix of light artists, concerts, sculptures, and so much more.
For this year the team at JUMP sought to create a captivating entrance activation that was playful and incorporated the theme of under the ocean.
To bring this idea to life Lumenarius delivered a turn key projection mapping system with custom content to really get the party started!
THE EXPERIENCE
With projections from on high cast onto the ground you absolutely “step into” the immersive world of the show.
Immediately people loved the effect and played in the virtual waves right away with many coming back over the course of the evening.
Adults, kids, grandparents, and even the security guard let loose as the waves framed the entrance to the all ages event.
“Lumenarius is pushing the boundaries of what immersive projection mapping can be. For our annual Illumibrate Festival, Lumenarius transformed our public plaza into a dynamic ocean beach.
[…] the first thing people interacted with as they entered the festival, it set the tone for the entire event in the best possible way. It really made a splash!”

THE SYSTEM
Always innovating and coming up with new ways to make magic we crafted an adjustable first surface mirror for use with live events.
This enabled the projector to be placed on the 5th story, where the beam was “bounced” down onto the ground.
This is significantly safer and easier to rig than to cantilever the projector over the railing in order to cast the beam onto the ground.
THE CONTENT
For the content it was perfect match to use aerial footage of waves crashing on a sandy beach.
By sourcing the footage, then slowing it down, and finally color grading it the content was able to really pop to recreate the effect of running along the waves of a beach in the summer.
For instance it made sense to have the area where guests entered be the sand so that when approaching the venue entrance they are moving deeper into the water.
Then to keep it interesting every 90 seconds a particle driven 3D transition would occur which then revealed the next section of beach.
