FAITHLIFE SOFTWARE
In 2015 Lumenarius was contacted with the idea of creating a permanent outdoor projection mapping system for Faithlife.
Being an employer of many creatives and computer programmers in the heart of Bellingham the client was looking for an activation that would enliven their building with an eye catching modern look.
Something that could be updated with fresh content as time progressed. A piece that would increase the appeal of not only working at the company but for the town’s vibrancy too.
Projection mapping was a clear choice for the solution to this problem for it highlighted the building without permanent alternations. It was also something that was visible during the most common times of employees strolling home in addition to the frequent downtown events.
THE EXPERIENCE
Every weekend since the system has been lighting up the Bellingham skyline.
Each occasion is splendid though it was at the utmost level for the grandeur for the official opening where the street closed to cars and all from around town gathered to enjoy the show.
The projections are a staple of the urban landscape with a readily viewable show from many blocks away.
The effect is overall very Bellingham and achieved Faithlife’s goal to help enliven the artistic appeal of their building and that of the entire community as well.
THE SYSTEM
The show employs 50,000 lumens of light housed in custom made climate controlled projector enclosures.
Situated on a nearby friendly roof the system is hard to see from the sidewalk which helps achieve the magical effect. Cameras, sensors, and remote access all contribute to a platform that is easy to manage while delivering maximal views each weekend.
After many years it is so rewarding to see the installation continue to illuminate the horizon of downtown Bellingham.
THE CONTENT
The content started as a mix of Lumenarius provided sections and has grown into a library of amazing visuals from many artists.
In the studio Lumenarius developed 2 hours of original content covering the playful, outdoor oriented nature of Bellingham.
A mix of Bob Ross painting the building, sun shining through sprouting plants, and other playful motifs were crafted to give the content its kick.
Since inception many contributions have been made to the content library from the creative media team at Faithlife, to local artists, and also an annual gallery viewing for the WWU Design Students.
What’s more is that the content also includes audio of which many speakers were installed along the sidewalk to provide sound in sync with the visuals.
